Asset-Building Initiatives to Benefit Youth and Community

 PURPOSE: To provide funding opportunities for projects that help build a positive connection between youth, adults and the community. The funds can be used to expand an existing project or to support new projects based on the principles of the 40 Developmental Assets.

For asset building to be woven into the fabric of community life it needs to be reinforced everywhere – in homes, schools, congregations, places of employment, service clubs, organizations and policy making offices.

ELIGIBILITY:

*         Applicants must be not-for profit group (i.e. organizations, churches, schools, service clubs, etc.)

*         Projects sponsored by multiple groups will also be accepted

*         Project must be directly related to asset building in Clinton

TIMELINE:

*         Applications due March 20, 2008

*         Awards announced April 1, 2008

*         Projects should begin in April 2008 and be completed by October 31, 2008

*         Final reports due November 15, 2008

PROJECT CRITERIA

*         Projects must be focused on youth.

*         Projects should benefit the community and include an element of youth participation.

*         Efforts to engage youth who might not otherwise have an opportunity to participate (i.e. due to transportation or economic barriers)

AWARD REQUIREMENTS

*         Funds must be used for direct project costs and not staff time or salary as outlined in submitted budget

*         Projects must be completed within the mini-grant program’s timeline

*         Grants will be awarded up to $900.00 per project.

*         Awardees will provide narrative and budget report at the completion of the project.

EXAMPLES OF ASSET BUILDING PROGRAMS:

*         After school activities

*         Community Service Projects

*         Projects that link multiple generations

*         Skill-building/Leadership training

*         Youth mentoring youth

*         School-based activities

*         Faith-based activities
